Organization considered "end user" are those that will use the requested IP block for their own infra structure and not for providing services with those address to any other external organization.
To request an IPv4 address block the "end user" organization should fill up the template indicated above and then sent it to hostmaster@lacnic.net . Once it is verified and no error was found, an e-mail is sent back with the "ticket" number that identifies this request in our system.
After being approved, it will be necessary to pay the registration fee and sign the Registration Service Agreement. The instruction for payment and about the agreement is sent with the approval message. The assignment is only done after the payment and the reception of the agreement already signed.
According to the current LACNIC policy the smallest prefix assigned by LACNIC is a /20 (16 blocks/24). In the case of a multi-homed end user, the smallest prefix will be a /24. LACNIC determines the appropriated prefix on each request process by taking into consideration the justified need and utilization rate.
In order to qualify for an initial assignment the organization should:
- Demonstrate efficient utilization of at least /21 block or shorter prefix assigned to them by their upstream provider. There is no need for a contiguous block.
- Or, demonstrate efficient utilization of at least /25 block or shorter prefix assigned to them by their upstream provider in the case of multi-homed organization (two or more independent Internet connexion). There is no need for a contiguous block.
The utilization rate is used to determine the prefix size to be assigned. Rates to be considered:
- 25% of immediate utilization of the requested block and
- 50% of utilization in one year.
In both cases the organization should agree to return the previous assigned block to their upstream provider.
The organization requesting address block should be aware of the maintenance fee associated with the assigned block. |
